    Remove all foreign material from joint area. Heavy sections should be beveled to form a 90 V. High carbon steel should be preheated to 400 F. Maintain alignment by use of jigs, fixtures, and tack welds. Use stringer beads to prevent overheating and maintain a short arc. Part should be allowed to cool before removing slag.
